Major X8.7 Solar Flare | May 14, 2024

Departing Active Region 13664 just behind the west limb. unleashed its largest flare peaking X8.7 at 16:51 UTC May 14 causing a strong R3 level radio blackout over North America. A weak CME associated with the X8.7 flare is heading well to the west and will not have an earth bound component. A second more energetic CME is visible exiting the other side of the solar corona from the M4.4 this coronal mass is heading to the east and also away from Earth.
