The Origins of African Americans
This reviews the African origin of African Americans. We are diverse and mostly admixed with West and West/Central Africans. We also have extensive European admixture as well as a small amount of Native American. We are descendants of the Trans Atlantic slave trade. A lot of things are misunderstood about Africans and the people, especially the historical processes surrounding the Trans Atlantic slave trade. Dr. R.A Kittles is featured in this video. African Americans are mostly African derived 58-83% With European ancestry as high as 60% in some folks who socially identify as African Americans. European ancestry runs from anywhere between 10-30% to 30-40% The second most common haplogroup among African Americans is R1b which originated in Europe. The most common haplogroup among African Americans is E1b1a (E3a) which peaks as high as 100% in several West African populations and is the most common lineage in West/Central Africa as well as Sub Saharan Africa.
