The album first entered the Billboard 200 at No. 4, reaching No. 1 in its fourth week in January 1977. The album stayed on the top of the chart for eight weeks (non-consecutively). It is the first Eagles album without the appearance of their founding member Bernie Leadon and their first album with guitarist Joe Walsh. It is also the last album featuring original bassist Randy Meisner. The album became the band's best-selling studio album, with over 17 million copies sold in the U.S. alone, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA in a week of its release. It has been certified as 16x Platinum by the RIAA in the U.S. and is also certified 6x Platinum by the BPI in the UK, and has sold over 32 million copies worldwide.
