"I think the importance of getting the right " who" before the "what" has been a big lesson for us. That means really having the right people in place at all levels. The right investors, advisors and board members having the right management team in place, the right team, the right culture and the team in place as well is essential. You know, in the first few years, as a founder, I wasn't so experienced and I wasn't so thoughtful about the people aspect. We didn't have a conscious set of culture codes or hiring practices. We'll just hire anyone that we think fits the bill. I would take money from any investors who would give it to us without doing proper reference checks.
I would not build up really a very strong management team in the first few years. And so even though the markets were pretty good, we're always having people issues internally.
