During American Councils 50th anniversary, we proudly honor our history in international education and language training programs that are currently comprised of over 250 initiatives in 148 countries. In this video, Dr. Dan E. Davidson, president emeritus and co-founder of American Councils, discusses the genesis and history of American Councils, and the core of its mission. Established in 1974 during a period of intense competition and conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union, the American Council of Teachers of Russian (ACTR) created cross-cultural and linguistic collaboration opportunities between the two global superpowers. What began as a small consortium of professors and scholars evolved into American Councils for International Education to meet the challenges of an interconnected global landscape. Support American Councils during our golden anniversary by making a tax-deductible contribution to one of our flagship scholarships.
