Thirty years ago, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure founded Band Aid - a charity supergroup featuring some of the world's biggest artists. They released the charity single "Do They Know It’s Christmas" in response to the Ethiopian famine of 1984.
Ebola typically occurs in outbreaks of tropical regions of sub-saharan Africa, but as there is no commercial cure available it is at risk of spreading across the world. We need to raise funds to help find a cure and stop the virus.
The 1985 Live Aid concert was conceived as a follow-on to the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?". The event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine.
On 2 July 2005 an estimated 3 billion people came together in the fight against extreme poverty. LIVE 8 - 10 concerts featuring over 1000 musicians from across the globe - asked people not for their money, but for their voice.
Forty-four artists and one hit single - U.S.A. For Africa recorded the single "We Are the World" in 1985 and was a number one single in the US and UK.
