However, that same frog placed in cool water which is gradually heated grows acclimated to the rising temperature and will ultimately boil to death. Many people who have been complacent with incremental social and technological changes are now reacting to the quickening pace of events. Unlike water, we humans are not mechanically consistent to how we react to change. Nevertheless, the unpredictability of sudden and unexpected changes at this moment in history appears to be reaching levels that are driving people to extreme responses. On one hand, some are overwhelmed and are simply shutting down. On the other hand, some are triggered into a sense of panic, propelling them into action. Although it’s understandable to spiral into despair or denial, it’s our current engagement with humanity that will ultimately determine the outcome. April is a turning point in the longer trajectory of human evolution. The next stage in our transformation is coming into view now as Neptune’s entry into pioneering Aries on March 30 draws our idealistic visions out of our dreams and thrusts them into the creative fires of manifestation. Meanwhile, we begin the month with retrograde Mercury and Venus lurking in the mists of Piscean illusions where logic is elusive and intuition is heightened. However, Mercury turns direct on April 7 and enters eager Aries on April 15, while Venus ends its retrograde period on April 12 and pushes into enterprising Aries on April 30. We are getting a taste of a longer astrological transition over the next couple of years, shifting us from the receptive earth and water signs into the proactive fire and air signs. But we are still caught up in a repetitive push-pull between the ending of one cycle (Pisces) and the beginning of another (Aries). Practicing patience and perfecting our plans before pushing forward offer us better odds for success. Previously hidden tensions come to light with the Libra Full Moon on April 12 at 5:22 pm PDT. The relationship-oriented Libra Moon opposes the illuminating Sun as it conjoins wounded healer Chiron in impulsive Aries. Overcoming our fear of the unknown and facing our past is key to clearing obstacles that stand in our way of learning valuable lessons and experiencing deep healing. Mars moves into bold Leo on April 17, inspiring us to express ourselves dramatically. Thankfully, the Sun shifts into resolute Taurus on April 19, encouraging us to plant our feet on the ground and redefine our center of gravity. Only when we find a place to stand in a rapidly shifting world can we establish a stable path into the future. Nevertheless, there are still immediate challenges ahead as the Sun forms dynamic squares with aggressive Mars on April 20 and with relentless Pluto on April 23. This cosmic battle is a harbinger of the intense Mars-Pluto opposition on April 26 that indicates a long-term power struggle reaching a culmination. The month closes with a Taurus New Moon on April 27 at 12:31 pm PDT, prompting us to sow seeds of intention in a sensible and sustainable manner. We are wise to remember that slow and steady movement is more reliable than spontaneous bursts of energy. Fortunately, this lunation is a counterpoint to the excessive cosmic energy that is provoking us to react before evaluating the consequences of our actions. There is no quick-and-easy solution to our current complex problems; we can no longer expect a superhero to swoop in and save the day. We are experiencing transformations that have no historical precedent. Accordingly, it’s up to each and every one of us to stay alert, watch for meaningful signs, and act in a mindful manner with kindness and compassion.
